The Early Intervention in Psychosis Service in Sussex provides support to 14 to 35 year olds experiencing their first episode of psychosis. Early Intervention means getting help for problems when they start, before they develop into a more serious illness – the earlier someone gets help, the more quickly support can be put in place to help their recovery. The service is for people living in the Brighton and Hove area.

Aims of the Early Intervention Service:

• To reduce the length of time young people are left without any treatment

• For people’s first experience with mental health services to be as least stigmatising as possible

• To reduce symptoms and support social recovery after a first episode of psychosis for up to 3 years, so young people can reach their potential

• To prevent or reduce the severity of relapses

• To support and inform families/carers and involve them as much as possible

• To improve professional and the publics awareness of the symptoms of psychosis and the need for early assessment, by linking effectively with a range of services

• To use evidence based treatments and promote these to others working with young people experiencing psychosis.
